About Unmist
An independent eye on the UK private clinic market.
Unmist is an independent UK consumer-information platform. We do one thing: we organise source-linked public information on private aesthetic, dental, hair and cosmetic-surgery clinics — drawn from the GMC and GDC registers, with links to the official CQC register (the regulator of health and care services in England) — alongside a calm read of what each clinic’s own website does and doesn’t say. Voluntary professional accreditations (Save Face, BCAM, JCCP, BAAPS, BAPRAS and others) appear when a Verified clinic chooses to display them. The public factsheet is currently free to patients.

Section 01
The UK aesthetics market has no single regulator
UK rules for non-surgical cosmetic procedures vary by the treatment, its purpose, the practitioner and the UK nation. Botulinum-toxin products are Prescription-Only Medicines. Dermal fillers are not generally prescription-only medicines; depending on composition and intended use, a product may be regulated as a medical device, a medicine or a general product. Requirements for premises and practitioners therefore differ, and there is no single public register that answers every question a patient may have about a clinic.
The premises itself may need to be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) depending on which regulated activities it carries out. The clinicians involved may appear on the GMC (doctors), GDC (dentists) or NMC (nurses) registers. Voluntary schemes — Save Face, JCCP, BCAM, BAAPS, BAPRAS and others — add another layer, but joining them is a choice, not a requirement. Each of these is a separate website with its own search tool and its own terminology.
Unmist exists to close that gap: for each clinic we pull together what the public registers and the clinic’s own website actually say, in one place, for free — without rating, ranking or vouching for clinical quality, which no public-record summary can credibly do.
Section 02
Who runs this
Unmist is a trading name of Northlight Technologies Ltd, an independent UK company (number 17513274, registered in England and Wales). Not a clinic, not a regulator, not a marketing agency, not a venture-funded startup. The registered office and contact details are published in the Privacy notice. You can also contact us via hello@unmist.co.uk.
We’d rather you judge what we publish on its own merits: every fact on a factsheet links to the source it came from.
Section 03
How we stay alive
The public factsheet is currently free to patients. We do not currently plan to place core public-record information behind a paywall.
The bills will be paid by clinics that subscribe to Unmist Verified — an upgrade that is not yet on sale, which will let a clinic add their own bio, curate their team, and earn a transparent gold “Verified by clinic” badge on their factsheet. The badge will never move a clinic up in results. The order stays alphabetical or by distance, regardless of who pays.
We don’t accept paid placement and we don’t insert ads into the factsheet. We don’t take commission on patient bookings or on how many patients a clinic receives. When the Verified tier opens, its subscriptions are intended to fund Unmist.
Section 04
What we do not do
We do not rate clinics. We do not produce an Unmist score. We do not publish reviews. We do not aggregate Trustpilot or Google ratings into a single number and present that as our opinion. The quality of clinical care is not something a public-record summary can credibly judge — and any platform that claims it can is selling something.
What we do publish is the practitioners a clinic names on its own website, each with a link to check them yourself on the GMC, GDC or NMC register (where we have checked a register ourselves, the factsheet says so), a link to the official CQC register for the premises (the health and care regulator for England), what their pricing transparency looks like, what their before/after gallery practices look like, and where each fact came from. Unmist does not itself confirm anyone’s registration. The patient gets the same information a careful researcher would gather — in seconds.

Where to read more
The long-form case for why Unmist exists in the first place — covering the UK regulatory gap, the Keogh Review, the Health and Care Act 2022 and the patchwork of voluntary registers — is at /why-unmist.
Patient-side guides on verifying a CQC registration, questions to ask before booking anti-wrinkle injections, and what hair transplant clinic websites don’t tell you sit in the Unmist journal.
