Frequently asked questions
Short answers about what Unmist is and how it works. For the longer version, see About and Methodology.
What is Unmist?
Unmist is an independent, UK-built information platform for UK private clinics — aesthetic, dental, hair restoration and cosmetic surgery. For each clinic, we bring together publicly available information — what the clinic’s own website says, plus links to the official registers (CQC, GMC, GDC, NMC) — onto a single page. It is a research starting point, not a recommendation.
Is Unmist free?
Yes. Unmist is currently free for patients. If that ever changes, we will explain the change before it applies. The platform is intended to be funded by clinics that choose to subscribe to the optional "Verified" tier (see /for-clinics), which is not yet open.
Does Unmist rate, rank or recommend clinics?
No. Unmist does not produce a score, a star rating, or a "best clinics" list, and does not recommend any clinic over another. We publish factual, sourced information — such as the practitioners a clinic names on its own website, with links to check them on the GMC, GDC or NMC register. Unmist links to the official CQC register and publishes a CQC status only when it is independently supported by sufficient location-specific register evidence; otherwise we make no positive or negative registration claim. This lets a patient do their own research more quickly. Whether a clinic is right for someone is a judgement only the patient (ideally with their own clinical consultation) can make.
What is the difference between a "Free" and a "Verified" clinic listing?
A Free listing is built entirely from publicly available sources: the clinic’s own website and the public regulator registers. Verified is not open yet; once it opens, a Verified listing will mean the clinic itself has claimed the page, confirmed or corrected its details in writing, and chosen to display additional information (such as practitioner bios or accreditations). Verified status does not change a clinic’s position in search results and is not an endorsement — it only indicates the clinic has engaged with its own listing.
Where does the information on Unmist come from?
From publicly accessible sources: the clinic’s own website and the public statutory registers — the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the General Medical Council (GMC), the General Dental Council (GDC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Voluntary accreditations such as Save Face or JCCP appear only when a Verified clinic chooses to add them, once Verified opens. Facts link back to where they came from, and each factsheet shows when we last read the clinic’s website so you can judge how current it is.
Is Unmist a regulator, or affiliated with the CQC, GMC or GDC?
No. Unmist is not a regulator and is not affiliated with the CQC, GMC, GDC, NMC or any voluntary accreditation body. We link to and reference their public registers so visitors can check the primary source directly — we encourage everyone to verify any fact on Unmist against the regulator’s own register.
Why does the UK aesthetics industry need a tool like this?
In the UK, most non-surgical cosmetic procedures are not regulated as a distinct category, and the law does not require the person administering many treatments to hold a medical qualification — only that certain medicines are prescribed by an appropriate prescriber. The result is a patchwork of separate registers (CQC for premises in England, GMC/GDC/NMC for individual clinicians, several voluntary schemes) with no single place to check a clinic. Unmist brings these together for each clinic. See /about for the longer explanation.
Does Unmist give medical advice?
No. Nothing on Unmist is medical advice, a clinical recommendation, or a substitute for a consultation with a qualified practitioner. We provide factual, public-record information to help with research before a consultation — decisions about any treatment should always be made with a qualified clinician.
I found an error on a clinic’s page — how do I report it?
Use the "Suggest a correction" link in the footer of any page, or email hello@unmist.co.uk. We aim to review corrections promptly; see /corrections for details, and /notice-takedown for formal removal requests.
I run a clinic — how do I claim or update my listing?
Use the claim form at /claim (also linked from every factsheet), or see /for-clinics for what the Verified listing includes. Corrections to a free listing are always free — see /corrections.
