What aftercare do you provide, and who do I contact if something worries me afterwards?from their pages
What a solid answer includes: A directly responsive answer names who to contact, how to contact them and when they are reachable.
- 2
Do you discuss alternatives — including not treating — at the consultation?

What a solid answer includes: A directly responsive answer names who would be responsible for your care, how urgent problems are handled out of hours and whether further treatment could cost extra.

E. Things to observe and note
These don't show up on a website. None of them mean something is wrong; they are simply worth noticing and weighing as part of your decision.
Before & after: is it a fair comparison?
If you are shown photographs, check:
- Same patient and treated area; the treatment is identified.
- Angle, distance or zoom, crop, posture and expression are comparable.
- Lighting, background and camera perspective are comparable.
- Make-up, filters, retouching, styling or skin preparation do not change the area; ask about sessions, timing, other treatments and results beyond the best case.
Ask: “Can I see unedited photographs taken under comparable conditions, with sessions, timing and any other treatments explained?”
Photography can change how results appear. One person’s outcome is not a guarantee of yours.
Full payment is asked for before the consultation
Consultation fees are normally quoted on their own. Being asked to pay for the whole procedure before you have been assessed is worth pausing on.
You are asked to book on the day
The Royal College of Surgeons' standards recommend a cooling-off period of at least two weeks for cosmetic surgery, and GMC guidance asks doctors to give you time to reflect — a discount that ends today is worth pausing on.
No written consent form before payment
GMC guidance expects the person carrying out a procedure to take your consent themselves and to give you time to reflect; ask to see the consent form before you pay.
Your specific risk questions get general answers
If you ask what could go wrong for you and the answer stays general, ask again until it becomes specific to you.
No clear route if something goes wrong
Ask who you would call out of hours and what happens if a corrective procedure is needed, and note how clearly it is answered.
Is the prescriber in the building or reachable, and is the product opened in front of you?
Prescription-only medicines are prescribed by a named person after seeing you; a sealed product opened in front of you lets you see what is used.
F. Your notes
